In November 2023, Vickies Foundation wants to construct a library for Victory School, Madalla in Niger State, Nigeria, a primary and secondary school which lacks a library facility. The School has provided an empty classroom for this project, and Vickies Foundation will get furniture for the room, paint the room, buy the books, and set up a fully accessible library for the students.
The school has also given us a list of books they want us to get for the library and we are hoping with your help, we can achieve a fully functioning library for the students and make sure they have the foundation of a good education.
Problem Statement
The importance of the library facility in an institution of learning at the foundation stage of the child (learner) can never be over emphasised.
Therefore the lack of library facility in this school has limited the desire and capacity of students to carry out research from different books on the topics they were taught in class. This has affected their grades and and reduced their motivation to learn.
Also, there are prospective students who would not be able to enrol in this school after they have been told the list of text that they need to get for admission into a given class.
“I believe that the availability of this facility in the school will help in solving these problems to a great extent” – Mr David (Vice-Principal of Victory School)
Expected Outcome
The Library will benefit about two hundred and fifty students (250) between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. This covers the nursery, primary and secondary school students.
Who We Are
Vickies Foundation is a Charity organisation in Nigeria focused on the education of children and youths, sponsoring children to school and constructing libraries for underdeveloped schools.
Our Vision is to create libraries and supply books all over Nigeria, to meet the needs and aspirations of young people seeking a better life for themselves and their families.
Why We Are Doing This
The hunger for knowledge of many students motivates them to attend school at all costs, but the sad truth, however, is that oftentimes, their parents cannot afford the books needed for their academic development and schools also often lack the necessary resources to provide these essential learning materials.
Furthermore, many schools do not even have library facilities and as a result, students and young people are not able to reach their potential in life. Books really are essential and fulfil a variety of needs from academic through to entertainment and we want to tackle the issue of failing education due to lack of access to books and learning materials.
